FAQ

I’m not located in San Luis Obispo, can I be a member?

What does the name Spokes mean?
The development of the wheel revolutionized and streamlined our way of life.  Suddenly, we were able to move twice as much, twice as fast, with half as much effort. That’s what we aim to do for our nonprofit sector, helping them strengthen their organization and tuning and placing their “spokes” needed to be able to work with more efficiency and more impact.
Why did your nonprofit change your name from the Nonprofit Support Center?
To visually convey the dramatic evolution from our previous entity, the Nonprofit Support Center’s name was changed to Spokes. The inspiration of Spokes came from how a wheel uses spokes to help people get where they want to go, faster and more efficiently. In this context, the name Spokes offers a clever metaphor for the work we do. We help nonprofits tune or replace their operational “spokes” and empower them to keep moving forward in their missions – impactfully and efficiently. These “spokes” can be anything from fund development and risk management to board development and human resources.
What is the mission of Spokes?
