It’s official: Facebook officially unveiled its Facebook Fundraiser feature last fall (say that three times fast!), and now the question is, well…what exactly does that mean for you? Essentially, anyone in the U.S. can now set up an online peer-to-peer fundraiser through the social media site to generate support for their favorite participating nonprofit. As opposed to personal fundraising platforms (à la GoFundMe) or platforms for creative projects (like Kickstarter), this feature is solely offered to bona fide U.S.-based 501(c)(3) organizations. To read a brief article that further explains what makes this feature great (or not-so-great) from nonprofit digital media company M+R, click here.
To participate, an organization must complete an application. We suggest combing through Facebook’s frequently asked questions to find out if participating is right for your organization. For more information check this link out.
